An autumn trip to Wyoming to view Grand Tetons and Yellowstone is perfect as long as one plans for snow! Originally our trip was to include food tours and culinary side trips, but the magnificent vistas detoured those plans. We were fortunate to stay two nights at Jackson Lake Lodge with 60-foot windows along the entire lobby featuring a panoramic view of pristine Jackson Lake and the majestic Teton Range above. We dined in the Mural Room with binoculars in hand! In this grand old restaurant we enjoyed a charcuterie platter with bear, boar and elk salami complemented by Luigi Bosca’s 2014 Malbec – one of the best we have ever tasted. In fact we had the same wine two nights in a row!
After a sunrise wildlife safari where we watched elk, bison, eagles, and pronged-horned antelope and learned about history, we took the boat across Jenny Lake for a 2 mile hike. Back at the lodge, the late afternoon was spent sipping wine and local micro brews all the while being mesmerized by the Mt Moran.
Travel is not all fine wine and dining. We managed to find a dive in Buffalo Valley where the “chef” served undercooked French fries! It all adds to the adventure and memories. We will never forget our toothless friend and his sincere efforts to help us. The French fries were just icing on our travel cake.
